Twenty Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

The readings presented to us this week centre on the themes of faith, perseverance, and trust in God’s plan. Believers are encouraged to remain faithful, even when God’s promises seem delayed, and to recognise that faith, though small, is powerful when rooted in God.

Faith That Endures: Habakkuk cries out to God in the face of injustice and violence. God responds not with immediate action, but with a promise: “The just one, because of his faith, shall live.” This teaches that faith is not blind optimism, but a firm trust in God’s justice, even when it seems slow in coming.

Power of Even a Small Faith: The apostles ask Jesus to increase their faith. He replies, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed…” pointing to the transformative power of even a little genuine faith. Jesus also reminds the disciples that service to God is not about rewards, but about humble obedience.

Live by Faith, Not Sight: Together, the readings stress that true discipleship means trusting God beyond what we see or understand. Whether we face doubt, delay, or difficulty, God invites us to hold firm, serve faithfully, and believe that He is at work, even in silence.
